Getting out of survival over and over
Happy Monday dearest reader, I’m back with another evidence based power packed newsletter 🗞 to support you in your personal growth journey.
And today I’m writing about survival
The Why
For as long as I remember I was living in survival mode. Being an eldest daughter comes with its own set of challenges and responsibilities.
In my home, my mother was schizophrenic, always reacting to life and panicking over the smallest of things. So I inherited the same from her and became like that.
I started living in fight, flight and freeze mode. Getting reactive over smallest of things like laptop 💻 crashing. Exam form filling
It took me a long time of healing ❤️🩹 to be able to get out of survival mode and learn to respond to life.
The How
I still slip into survival patterns coz I am human but now I’m aware and with awareness I can make conscious decisions.
Here is how I get out of survival whenever I slip into it.
1st way
Developing a daily mindfulness practice
Awareness is the secret to take control of life. Over time I’ve developed some meditation and mindfulness practices they help me ground myself and get to the here and now. My most favourite tool is meditation and second is journaling
Take control
As I slip into survival I start to blame the outside world for what’s happening in the inside world 🌍
I make them responsible on how I’m feeling but with practice I’ve learned to take care of my internal
Education
Consistent education is the best way to develop awareness. Last winter when I fell into depression I started learning about the brain 🧠 and it made me feel detached.
I realised I am not my brain. My brain is just an automated part of me. As I started getting to know and learn more about my brain my awareness started expanding.

Stepping out of survival and getting into thrive mode is our purpose in this lifetime. It’s a much needed step into the evolution of our soul’s journey. Whenever you see people on insta thriving instead of feeling like a victim ask yourself what’s stopping me from having the same reality? Why am I living in autopilot
Don’t blame yourself for living in survival or falling back into survival patterns. Change and evolution is challenging. Our ancestors constantly and consistently lived in hyper vigilance. They had to make sure someone is not coming to hurt/hunt them and we carry a lot of those fears in our DNA. 🧬Learning about epigenetics will help you get to know those fears.
Give yourself grace. Survival as it’s name implies “To survive” Survival isn’t that bad. It helped you survive. It protected you. This is exactly what you needed at that particular phase in your life. It’s something you are used to. So whenever you find yourself slipping into survival patterns. Give yourself grace. Don’t say how can I become the same person again. Habits take time to rewrite and survival is a habit too.
Get rich: I mean seriously! Money may not solve all your problems but it will allow you to create joyful experiences for yourself and your loved ones. You can go out to eat at restaurants and create happy memories for yourself and your family. You can buy yourself beautiful dresses 👗 to express your authenticity and these things are beyond survival.

Ah so beautiful! Thank you for sharing - I’m not an eldest daughter, but I’m an only child to a single-parent mom, so I still very much resonated with having to be in “survivor mode” to lift ourselves up :)
